Mirchi Vada Recipe

Ingredients for Rajasthani Mirchi Vada :

8-10 Badi Hari Mirchi (Large green pepper / Banana Pepper)
1 cup Besan (Bengal gram flour)
salt to taste
Oil to deep fry

For the Filling :
3-4 potatoes, boiled
1 table-spoon Fennel Seeds, crushed (Saunf)
1 t-spoon Dhaniya Powder (coriander powder)
1/2 t-spoon Red chilli powder
1 t-spoon Amchoor (dried mango powder)
a pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
salt to taste


How to make Mirchi Vada :

  • In a large bowl mix besan and salt. Add water to form a thick batter.
  • Peel the boiled potatoes and mash them properly. Add all the ingredients to these boiled potatoes and mix them properly with hands.
  • Slit the pepper lengthwise and remove the seeds inside it. Fill it with potato filling.
  • In a medium size pan heat oil to fry Mirchi Vada. Dip stuffed Hari Mirchi in the batter to cover it completely and put it in a pan containing hot oil.
  • Repeat the procedure for the remaining Mirchi and fry them at medium heat till they get golden yellow.
  • Serve Rajasthani Mirchi Vada with tea or chutney.
