Spinach Raita Recipe

Spinach Raita is also known as palak ka raita. Spinach is the very healthy Vegetable, you will find in almost every part of India. Spinach should be properly cooked before adding it to the raita.

Ingredients for Spinach Raita (Palak Raita):

1 cup Spinach, stem removed, chopped (Palak)
1 1/2 cups Yogurt (Dahi)
1/2 t-spoon roasted ground cumin (Jeera)
1/2 t-spoon salt
1/2 t-spoon sugar (optional, if want sweetness in raita)
1/2 t-spoon kala namak (if not available, then take salt instead)
1/4 t-spoon black pepper (Kali mirch)
1/4 t-spoon red chillies powder (lal mirch)
1/4 t-spoon chat masala (Optional)
10-15 fresh coriander leaves (Hara Dhaniya)
1/2 cup water
1 pinch asafetida powder (Hing)
1 1/2 t-spoon Vegetable Oil
1/2 t-spoon Mustard seeds
1 green chilly, finely chopped

 

How to make Spinach Raita (Palak Raita):

  • To prepare a seasoning, take a non-stick frying pan and put it on medium heat. Add 1/2 t-spoon oil to it. When the oil gets heated up, add Mustard seeds, asafetida and green chilli and turn off the heat, stir well. Keep it aside
  • Take a separate pan and add 1 t-spoon oil to it, put it over medium heat, add chopped spinach, stir well and simmer for 5 mins. stirring occasionally on low heat. When the spinach gets soft, turn off the heat . Keep it aside so that it gets cool
  • Take a medium sized bowl and add yogurt to it. Mash it with a blender or madani until it gets smooth. Add water and remaining ingredients and again mix them well
  • Now, add spinach and Seasoning to the Yogurt Mixture and mix it well.Refrigerate spinach raita for 1/2 hour
  • Before serving, garnish raita with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve chilled.
